Wolfgang Van Halen is wasting no time thinking about the future. Even as his band Mammoth continues to promote its latest music, the multi-instrumentalist has revealed that he already has dozens of ideas for the group’s next studio release.
In a recent interview, Van Halen shared that his creative process rarely stops. According to the musician, he currently has roughly 30 song ideas that could potentially evolve into material for Mammoth’s fourth album. The ideas range from rough sketches and riffs to partially developed songs that he continues to revisit whenever inspiration strikes.
Van Halen explained that songwriting for him is often an organic process. Rather than forcing ideas into finished tracks immediately, he allows them to develop gradually. Some concepts that don’t make it onto one album can eventually resurface on a later release after they’ve had time to evolve.
This growing catalog of ideas reflects how productive the musician has been since launching his solo project. Mammoth has released three studio albums in rapid succession, including the most recent record, The End, which arrived in October 2025. Like the band’s earlier releases, the album showcased Van Halen’s unique approach to songwriting and recording, with the artist handling vocals and nearly all instrumentation himself in the studio.
Despite already having a wealth of material in development, Van Halen says there is no immediate rush to begin recording the next album. Current plans suggest that Mammoth could return to the studio sometime around 2027, giving the musician time to continue refining ideas while touring and promoting existing music.
Van Halen has built a reputation for constant creativity, often writing new material whenever he and his collaborators gather in the studio. According to him, every recording session tends to generate additional songs, meaning that the band gradually builds a “vault” of unused ideas that may eventually find their way onto future albums.
Since launching Mammoth, Van Halen has worked to carve out his own identity in rock music while honoring the legacy of his father, Eddie Van Halen. By writing and performing the majority of the music himself, he has established Mammoth as a project defined by his own artistic voice rather than simply revisiting the past.
With dozens of ideas already circulating and more likely to come, fans can expect that Mammoth’s creative momentum is far from slowing down. If Van Halen’s current pace is any indication, the band’s fourth album could eventually emerge as another ambitious chapter in a rapidly growing catalog. 🎸
