For months, the conversation around Arsenal has revolved around one question: who should lead the line next season?
Every transfer window brings fresh speculation. Names like Viktor Gyökeres dominate headlines, while debates over Kai Havertz continue to divide supporters. Yet amid all the noise, Arsenal may already know the uncomfortable truth, neither represents the ideal long-term answer.
If Mikel Arteta truly wants to take the final step from title challengers to champions, there may only be one genuine option: signing an elite, ruthless, world-class No. 9.
Havertz Has Been Useful, But Not Definitive
There’s no denying Havertz has contributed important goals and intelligent movement since arriving from Chelsea FC. His versatility, pressing, aerial presence and tactical intelligence have all helped Arsenal evolve.
But there’s a difference between being effective and being feared.
In the biggest matches, the ones that decide Premier League titles and Champions League runs, Arsenal have too often lacked a striker capable of turning half-chances into decisive moments. Havertz can facilitate attacks brilliantly, but he is not the kind of clinical predator who terrifies defenders every time he enters the box.
That distinction matters at the highest level.
Why Gyökeres Might Not Be The Perfect Fit
Gyökeres has enjoyed a sensational rise, earning admiration across Europe with his power, aggression and relentless scoring form. Naturally, Arsenal supporters have dreamed about what he could bring to North London.
But stepping from the Portuguese league into the pressure cooker of a Premier League title race is a completely different challenge.
Arteta’s system demands far more than goals. Arsenal’s striker must combine technical precision, positional intelligence, link-up play, defensive pressing and composure in elite-level matches. It’s not guaranteed Gyökeres immediately becomes that complete package.
There’s also the financial reality. Spending a massive fee on a striker who still carries adaptation risk could prevent Arsenal from strengthening other key areas of the squad.
Arsenal Need A Statement Forward
The clearest lesson from recent seasons is simple: Arsenal create enough chances to dominate games. What they occasionally lack is a killer.
When margins are razor-thin against teams like Manchester City or Europe’s elite, one elite finisher can change everything.
That’s why Arsenal’s real solution may not be Havertz or Gyökeres, but a proven superstar capable of delivering 30 goals a season while thriving under pressure.
Arteta has built an outstanding collective structure. The midfield is dynamic, the defense is organized, and the wide attackers are among the best in Europe. What remains missing is the final piece: a striker who guarantees goals when everything else breaks down.
The Next Step In Arsenal’s Evolution
Arsenal are no longer rebuilding. Expectations have changed.
Supporters no longer celebrate progress alone; they demand trophies. And with that shift comes a harsher reality: “good enough” is no longer enough.
Havertz can remain an important squad weapon. Gyökeres could still become a success somewhere in the Premier League. But if Arsenal truly want to conquer England and Europe, they may need to think even bigger.
Because next season, the difference between finishing second and lifting major silverware could come down to one thing, having the right man up front.
