Rock legend and philanthropist Jon Bon Jovi has been immortalized in bronze in his hometown of Sayreville, New Jersey. In a heartfelt ceremony attended by family, friends, fans, and local officials, the town unveiled a life-sized statue of the iconic musician, celebrating his contributions to music, community, and the state of New Jersey.
The statue, located in Sayreville’s Kennedy Park, captures the charismatic frontman of Bon Jovi mid-performance, microphone in hand and signature leather jacket blowing in an imagined breeze. It was commissioned by the Sayreville Arts Council and funded through a combination of public donations and private sponsorships. The statue was created by renowned sculptor Kristen Visbal, best known for the “Fearless Girl” statue in New York City.
Speaking at the unveiling, Jon Bon Jovi expressed his gratitude and humility.
“This town shaped me. These streets, the people, the schools they all gave me the foundation to dream big,” he said. “I’m honoured and deeply moved. This isn’t just a statue of me it’s a symbol of what anyone from a small town can achieve.”
Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick praised Bon Jovi’s decades-long career and community service.
“Jon has never forgotten where he came from. His success is remarkable, but what truly sets him apart is his commitment to giving back—from the Soul Kitchen to his work on homelessness and education. He’s a role model not just for Sayreville, but for the world.”
Bon Jovi, born John Francis Bongiovi Jr., rose to international fame in the 1980s with hits like “Livin’ on a Prayer”, “Wanted Dead or Alive”, and “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Beyond his musical achievements, he is known for his humanitarian efforts, particularly through the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which addresses issues of hunger and homelessness.
The statue has quickly become a local landmark, drawing fans from across the country. Residents hope it will inspire a new generation of dreamers growing up in Sayreville.
For longtime fan Melissa Ortiz, who traveled from Boston for the ceremony, the statue is more than a tribute.
“It’s a celebration of perseverance, passion, and heart. He’s not just a rock star he’s one of us.”
The town of Sayreville plans to make the statue the centerpiece of an annual “Bon Jovi Day,” complete with music festivals and community events, ensuring that Jon Bon Jovi’s legacy continues to inspire for generations to come.
