But according to Satriani, former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth once proposed exactly that, while the band was still active and Eddie Van Halen was very much alive and making music.
The virtuoso guitarist recently shared the amusing story, revealing that Roth approached him in the 1990s with an unexpected plan to celebrate Van Halen’s music. The proposal left Satriani completely stunned.
“I remember saying, ‘But Dave, Ed’s still alive!’” Satriani recalled, laughing at the memory. At the time, Van Halen remained one of the biggest rock bands in the world, continuing to release music and perform live.
