Fans of Iron Maiden are about to get an unprecedented look behind the curtain of one of heavy metal’s most legendary careers. Longtime drummer Nicko McBrain has officially announced his autobiography, Hello Boys And Girls!, set for release on October 22, 2026 through Harper Nonfiction.
The upcoming memoir promises to be far more than a standard rock biography. Described as “thrilling, hilarious and deeply personal,” the book will chronicle McBrain’s rise from the fiercely competitive London music scene of the 1970s to becoming one of the most beloved drummers in heavy metal history.
McBrain joined Iron Maiden in 1982 after earlier stints with acts like Pat Travers, Streetwalkers and Trust. Since making his studio debut on the classic Piece of Mind album in 1983, he has remained one of the defining forces behind the band’s sound and stage presence.
According to early details, Hello Boys And Girls! will feature backstage stories, life on the road, studio memories, career highs and lows, and McBrain’s trademark humor. The drummer said he is excited to finally share his journey “in my own words, with the world.”
The announcement arrives during a significant chapter in McBrain’s life and career. In late 2024, the drummer stepped back from touring duties after more than four decades on the road with Maiden, though he remained connected to the band through studio work and other projects.
His decision followed health challenges stemming from a 2023 stroke that temporarily affected movement on his right side. Despite that setback, McBrain continued performing before ultimately retiring from full-time touring.
Even after leaving the touring lineup, McBrain’s legacy within Iron Maiden remains untouchable. From iconic albums like Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son to countless sold-out world tours, his thunderous drumming helped define the sound of modern heavy metal for generations.
The autobiography is expected to dive deep into those golden years while also exploring his personal life, faith, recovery journey, and enduring relationship with Maiden’s global fanbase.
