According to Blackmore, the absence of the song from Rainbow’s live setlists came down to a surprisingly human reason, he simply forgot how to play it.

“Gates of Babylon,” featured on Rainbow’s 1978 album Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll, is widely regarded as one of the band’s most ambitious compositions. Blending orchestral arrangements with heavy riffs and the soaring vocals of Ronnie James Dio, the track helped cement Rainbow’s reputation for pushing the boundaries of hard rock and early metal.
