The band’s story began as a secret project in June 2019. Seeking a more expansive and aggressive creative outlet, Lira (vocals/bass) and Dametto (drums) joined forces with guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Sonia Anubis. Though the world didn’t learn of their existence until May 2020, they had already secured a deal with the prestigious Napalm Records.
Evolution Of Sound: Shades Of Sorrow
Following the departure of Sonia Anubis in 2022, the band welcomed Jéssica di Falchi to the lineup. This transition marked a shift in their sound. Their sophomore effort, Shades of Sorrow (2023), leaned into darker, more melancholic territory, incorporating elements of black metal and technical death metal.

Current Status And 2026 Outlook
As of early 2026, Crypta remains one of the most active touring acts in the metal world. Following the departure of Jéssica di Falchi in early 2025, the band has operated primarily as a trio, utilizing talented guest guitarists for their extensive live runs.
Crypta is more than just a “supergroup” of former Nervosa members. They represent a cultural shift in the genre. Fernanda Lira’s lyrics often touch on social issues and internal psychology, challenging the “closed-minded” stereotypes sometimes associated with metal.
