The first official photo of Rush legends Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee alongside touring drummer Anika Nilles has been unveiled, marking a major milestone as tickets for the band’s 2027 UK and European tour go on sale.
The image captures a new era for the iconic progressive rock outfit, as Lifeson and Lee prepare to take the stage under the banner of their ambitious multi-year “Fifty Something Tour,” celebrating five decades of Rush’s groundbreaking music.
Joining the trio on the road will be keyboardist Loren Gold, known for his work with The Who and Roger Daltrey. With Gold adding new sonic textures and Nilles bringing her acclaimed technical precision behind the kit, the upcoming tour promises to honor Rush’s legacy while exploring fresh dimensions in their live sound.
Speaking about the rehearsals, Lee shared his excitement about the evolving chemistry within the band’s expanded lineup.
“Both Alex and I are loving the hours of rehearsal time we’re spending with Anika and now Loren, learning around 40 songs which will enable us to keep the shows evolving, playing some different songs on different nights,” Lee said.
The decision to rehearse such a deep catalog hints at a dynamic setlist that will shift from show to show, a treat for die-hard fans who have long celebrated Rush’s musicianship and unpredictability in concert.
Lee also revealed that many longtime members of the band’s touring crew have returned for the anniversary run, helping recreate the grand-scale production fans have come to expect.
“We are thrilled that many of our longstanding crew have come back to help us design the kind of Rush show that fans have grown accustomed to expect from us,” he added.
Perhaps most poignantly, the tour will serve as a heartfelt tribute to late drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, whose virtuosic playing and philosophical songwriting were central to Rush’s identity. Peart passed away in 2020, leaving an immeasurable legacy in rock music.
“We dearly hope you will come along and help us celebrate 50 years of Rush music, while giving Neil the long overdue tribute he so richly deserves,” Lee said.
As anticipation builds across the UK and Europe, the Fifty Something Tour is shaping up to be more than just a celebratory run of shows. It’s a reflection of enduring friendship, musical excellence, and a band determined to honor its past while continuing to evolve fifty years on.
